Joint injections and nerve blocks to alleviate pain

Home>Joint Injections

Pain is an unpleasant, and sometimes limiting sensation that we experience in response to an injury or damage to the body.

The pain assessment is essential to determine the most appropriate treatment for each patient. In many cases, minimally invasive procedures such as joint injections and nerve blocks can be an option.

Joint or periarticular injections involve delivering a medical product directly into a joint or surrounding tissues. The goal is to produce a localized effect that benefits the patient, typically by reducing pain.

There are mainly three types of medications or products commonly used in injections:corticosteroids, hyaluronic acid, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP)..

Patients experiencing acute or chronic pain may also receive nerve blocks to achieve temporary pain relief..

Patients suffering from acute or chronic pain may receive an injection to block nerves and achieve temporary pain relief.

A nerve block involves injecting a local anesthetic (with or without corticosteroids) around a nerve or group of nerves to treat pain. The purpose is to “turn off” pain signals coming from a specific area of the body or to reduce inflammation in that region.
